Ontario County Sheriff David Cirencione has expressed his views on recent bail reform changes, describing them as a positive move for public safety. However, he noted that “a lot of confusion remains with the judges.” Cirencione is among several law enforcement officials and politicians advocating for increased judicial discretion.

He stated, “I think a lot more needs to be done,” reflecting concerns that current measures favor suspects over victims. The sheriff supports state Sen. Pam Helming’s PROTECT Act, which aims to empower judges to detain individuals likely to commit violent crimes if released before trial. Proponents of the act plan to revisit it next month in hopes of advancing its progress.
