The Livingston County Department of Social Services announced on March 25 that it will hold the Pinwheels for Prevention Fair on Friday, April 10, in recognition of National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The event aims to raise awareness about child abuse prevention and provide information about local resources. The fair will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the conference center at 1 Murray Hill Drive in Mount Morris.
Tracy McCaughey, Commissioner of the Department of Social Services, said, “The staff at the Department of Social Services along with our community partners are truly invested in prevention efforts in our community. Prevention starts with awareness but succeeds with action. We encourage community members to join us and learn more about available local programming and resources.”
Several agencies will participate in the fair, including Youth Advocacy Program, Catholic Charities of Steuben/Livingston County, CASA-Trinity, Livingston County Youth Bureau, Livingston County Department of Health, WNY Children’s Advocacy Network, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Livingston County Probation and Suicide Prevention Task Force. Agency staff will be present to share education materials and answer questions about services available locally.
The event will also feature a basket raffle and light refreshments. Donations collected during the fair will benefit the WNY Children’s Advocacy Center which is scheduled to open early this summer.
Residents can learn more about programs for children by visiting the Livingston County Department of Social Services website. Anyone who suspects child abuse or maltreatment is encouraged to call Child Protective Services at 1-800-342-3720 or contact emergency services if immediate help is needed.
