Senator Helming has issued a statement expressing strong disapproval of the Fiscal Year 2026 New York State Budget. According to Helming, the budget fails to address key issues such as affordability and public safety.

“For a budget that was supposed to prioritize affordability and public safety, it fails miserably,” she stated.

Helming criticized the budget for increasing spending by $17 billion compared to the previous year. She believes this approach does not alleviate the financial burdens faced by New Yorkers.

“Instead of relieving New Yorkers of high taxes and costly mandates, the budget doubles down on spending – a $17 Billion increase over last year!” she said.

The senator voiced concerns that those in power in Albany are disconnected from the challenges faced by various groups within the state. “This budget is out of touch. Those who hold the power in Albany don’t understand the struggles of working families, seniors, farmers, or small business owners. They simply don’t get it.”

Helming emphasized fiscal responsibility as essential for effective governance and warned about its current state in New York. “The foundation of an effective government is fiscal responsibility. In New York, that foundation is not merely cracking, it’s collapsing.”

She concluded with a call to action for those who care about New York’s future: “If you truly love New York, you don’t dig it further into the ground. You fight with all you’ve got to turn it around.”
