Seneca County Sheriff Timothy J. Thompson, Jr. announced on Mar. 19 that a former part-time Special Patrol Officer assigned to the Security Division was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated while off duty.
The announcement is significant as it addresses concerns about conduct by law enforcement personnel and the standards expected of those serving in public safety roles.
According to Thompson, the individual involved, Aaron Covert, was employed by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office at the time of the incident but has since been separated from service. The sheriff said, “This off duty conduct certainly does not reflect the values of this organization, but it is worth noting that this individual did serve this community with distinction at the Seneca County Courthouse and Seneca County Office Building for many years following his retirement from New York State.”
Thompson also stated that any further inquiries regarding the matter should be directed to the arresting agency.
The sheriff’s statement underscores a commitment to transparency and accountability within local law enforcement agencies.
