Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson said on March 12 that deputies arrested Jason A. Suarez of Jeannette, Pennsylvania, for criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree following a traffic stop in the Town of Varick.

The case is significant as it involves a class C felony charge related to illegal firearm possession, which carries serious legal consequences under New York law.

According to Thompson, deputies stopped Suarez’s vehicle on State Route 414 around 11:15 p.m. on March 6. During the stop, deputies saw a handgun in plain view inside the vehicle. Suarez was ordered out of the car and detained while deputies searched the interior and seized the handgun.

Further investigation led authorities to determine that Suarez knowingly and unlawfully possessed the firearm. He was then transported to the Seneca County Law Enforcement Center and turned over to corrections staff pending arraignment in Seneca County CAP Court.

No additional background information or further details about potential court proceedings were provided by officials.
