Meyer Shapiro has been named Ivy League Wrestler of the Year for the second consecutive season, according to the league’s announcement of its 2025-26 postseason wrestling honors. Cornell University led the conference with multiple major awards and a strong representation on the All-Ivy teams ahead of this weekend’s Ivy League Wrestling Tournament.

Shapiro, a junior competing at 157 pounds, is currently ranked as the top wrestler in his weight class nationally. He holds an undefeated 14-0 record this season and has improved his career mark to 58-6 at Cornell. “Slice Dawg,” as he is known, secured notable victories this year, including wins over then-No. 2 Kaleb Larkin of Arizona State and then-No. 7 Kannon Webster of Illinois.

“This honor marks Shapiro’s second straight Wrestler of the Year award after earning Rookie of the Year as a freshman, cementing his place among the Ivy League’s elite,” according to the university. He is also a two-time All-American.

Freshman Jaxon Joy was named Rookie of the Year following a standout debut season at 149 pounds. Joy finished with a 25-1 overall record and went 22-1 in dual matches. He is currently ranked No. 2 nationally at his weight class and received three Ivy League Wrestler of the Week honors during the season.

“Joy’s breakout moments included pinning Ohio State All-American Ethan Stiles at the Clarion Open and capturing the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational title, where he secured the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler award,” stated Cornell Athletics.

Cornell placed four wrestlers on First Team All-Ivy: Vince Cornella (141 lbs.), Jaxon Joy (149 lbs.), Meyer Shapiro (157 lbs.), and Simon Ruiz (174 lbs.). Two more athletes earned Second Team honors: Tyler Ferrara (133 lbs.) and Louie Cerchio (184 lbs.). Freshman heavyweight Cy Kruse received Honorable Mention recognition.

The Big Red will compete for another Ivy League Tournament title on Sunday, March 8, at Levien Gymnasium in New York City.
