The Cayuga County Health Department offers FREE home assessments to Cayuga County residents who live in older homes and are expecting a child and/or have children less than 7 years of age. Many homes in Cayuga County were built before 1978 (the year lead paint was banned from residential use) and were painted with lead paint. During an assessment, we will test chipping and peeling paint for lead and teach families how to protect all members of the home from being exposed.
Poisoning from lead is 100% avoidable and a proactive approach to identify lead hazards and educate can prevent unnecessary exposure.
