Assemblyman John Lemondes has designated October 6 as Coaches Day in New York, recognizing the vital role coaches play in youth development and society. He highlighted their contributions to teaching sportsmanship, strategy, and academic importance.
Lemondes also paid tribute to his own mentors, Buzz White and Jack William, both Vietnam War veterans who emphasized hard work and discipline. “October 6 is a day for us to recognize all of the hard work and effort coaches from across our state put in as they teach, train and mentor the next generation,” said Lemondes. He acknowledged that coaches not only impart sports fundamentals but also serve as role models.
He expressed gratitude on behalf of New Yorkers for the dedication shown by coaches statewide: “The coaches I had including Buzz White and Jack Williams impacted my life, and I want to ensure every child has the opportunity to participate in these programs. I think I can speak for all New Yorkers in thanking each and every one of our coaches for all they do to teach and inspire the next generation.”
