UR Medicine Thompson Health has received The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Total Hip and Knee Replacement Certification. This recognition reflects the hospital’s ongoing compliance with performance standards related to patient care and safety.

The Joint Commission is the largest healthcare accrediting body in the United States, and its Gold Seal indicates a commitment to quality. Thompson Health first obtained this certification in 2015. The certification process is conducted in collaboration with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

On August 19, an unannounced onsite review was carried out at Thompson Health. A reviewer from The Joint Commission assessed compliance with certification standards that were developed alongside healthcare professionals, measurement experts, and patients. The assessment included onsite observations and interviews.

“Advanced Total Hip and Knee Replacement Certification recognizes healthcare organizations committed to striving for excellence and fostering continuous improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” said Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer with The Joint Commission. “We commend Thompson for using The Joint Commission certification process to reduce variation in clinical processes and to strengthen its clinical program to drive safer, higher quality and more compassionate care for individuals served.”

Before the onsite survey in August, the surveyor reviewed documentation provided by Thompson Health such as clinical practice guidelines, data records, policies, educational materials, and meeting minutes.

“Our surgeons, nurses, and therapists are truly second to none. This Joint Commission award is another outside validation of the care our associates give every day,” said Thompson Health Executive Vice President/COO Kurt Koczent. “As our service area grows, new patients to Thompson can be confident they are receiving the excellent care.”
