Patient Care Technician Carly McCarthy has been recognized as the first recipient of the BEE Award at Thompson Health. McCarthy, who lives in Geneva, joined Thompson Hospital’s 3 East unit in March 2025 and was quickly noted by colleagues for her dedication.

A nurse who nominated McCarthy stated, “She is attentive to the needs of her patients and her fellow staff members. On countless occasions I have asked her to complete a task and she would inform me that it was already done or she quickly made herself available to complete it. Carly is extremely compassionate and empathetic towards her patients, taking the extra time to make them feel seen, heard and loved.”

The BEE Award stands for Being Exceptional Every Day and was created by Thompson associates to recognize non-licensed team members such as patient care technicians and medical office assistants. It serves as a complement to the organization’s quarterly DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence.

Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer Hazel Robertshaw said, “Bees pollinate daisies, and nursing would be lost without the work our amazing patient care technicians and medical office assistants do every day. They play a fundamental role in patient care.”

McCarthy received a BEE trophy along with bouquets of flowers as part of the recognition.
