20 schools across Cayuga County welcomed 8,441 students in 2021-22 school year

Cayuga County enrolled 8,441 students in the 2021-22 school year, according to the New York State Education Department.

It had the 25th lowest enrollment numbers in the state.

The number of students in the halls of Cayuga County schools fell by 2.4% compared to the year before.

In the 2021-22 school year, 50.8% of students were boys, and 49.2% were girls.

Most of the students were white, representing 83.4% of the Cayuga County student body.

Within Cayuga County, Auburn High School had the highest enrollment numbers in the school year, welcoming 1,198 students.

In 2022, New York had roughly one teacher for every 12 students, which is lower than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students. A lower student-to-teacher ratio has been found to improve students' school performance.
