Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan (R,C-Manchester) expressed strong disapproval after his proposal, Assembly Bill A.2992, was voted down by the Assembly Majority Conference. The bill aimed to allow the names of peace officers killed in the line of duty in New York State to be added to the Police Officers Memorial.
Gallahan emphasized that this act would serve as a permanent tribute to fallen officers and criticized the Majority’s decision as disrespectful to law enforcement personnel. "There is no good reason why the Assembly Majority has voted down my proposal to eternally honor the courageous men and women officers slain in the line of duty," said Gallahan. "Many peace officers put their lives on the line to protect us and our families, and ensuring their names are memorialized if they are killed in the line of duty is a small but meaningful way for our state to give back. It is very disappointing this proposal has been voted down, and I sincerely hope the Majority re-evaluates its decision."
