Senator Pam Helming has recognized Terry and Dorothy Gronwall of Honeoye with a New York State Senate Commendation Award. The award was presented for their extensive efforts in the protection and preservation of Honeoye Lake over more than two decades.
The Gronwalls have been active members of the Honeoye Valley Association, contributing significantly to various environmental initiatives. Their work includes conducting water sampling, developing a macrophyte management plan, and implementing a program to assess weed growth intensity in the lake. They also supported the creation of an aeration system and played a key role in transforming the Honeoye Inlet into a meandering stream, which has helped reduce sediment deposition in the lake.
Terry Gronwall has held several leadership positions, including President of the Honeoye Valley Association and Chairperson of the Honeoye Lake Watershed Taskforce.
Senator Helming praised their dedication: “Terry and Dorothy are two exemplary citizen-scientists who have worked with great diligence and passion to monitor and protect Honeoye Lake for its residents, visitors and future generations. They have been at the forefront of citizen engagement for more than two decades. Terry and Dorothy are incredibly deserving of the Senate Commendation Award, which honors individuals who exemplify the spirit of community, philanthropy and leadership. Thank you to the Gronwalls for their many contributions to their home lake and community, and the health of our Finger Lakes.”
The award ceremony took place during the New York State Federation of Lake Associations Western NY conference on October 26 at The Woods in Naples.
