Senator Pam Helming recently acknowledged the Original Candy Kitchen in Williamson for its selection to the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry. This state program recognizes businesses operating for over 50 years that have significantly contributed to their community's history and identity.

The Original Candy Kitchen, initially opened as the Williamson Candy Kitchen in 1890 by Greek immigrant George Boosalis, is now managed by Mary and Peter Anagnostopoulos. It has remained within the Boosalis family for four generations. Initially an ice cream parlor, it expanded into a diner and candy store offering diverse specialties while honoring local heritage.

Senator Helming stated, “Mary and Peter have preserved and elevated an extraordinary legacy that began four generations ago and continues to flourish today. The Original Candy Kitchen is more than a business; it’s a living piece of history and a cherished connection between the past and present.”

Assemblyman Brian Manktelow commented on the longstanding presence of the business in downtown Williamson: “For 134 years the scents of freshly made Original Candy Kitchen chocolates and sweet treats have filled the air in Williamson.”

Williamson Town Supervisor Tony Verno praised Mary Anagnostopoulos' community involvement: “Mary is a pillar of community involvement and participation."

Brian Pincelli from Wayne County Economic Development highlighted its importance: “As a 4th generation family owned business The Original Candy Kitchen has been a staple in Wayne County for over 130 years.”

Nicole Wylie from Williamson Chamber of Commerce remarked on its inclusion in the registry: "This prestigious recognition is a testament to their enduring legacy... Their dedication to excellence... make them truly deserving of this honor."

The inclusion aims to support such businesses with promotional assistance ensuring continued success.
