UR Medicine Thompson Health is set to host an event titled "From Punches to Prevention: Hidden Dangers of Concussions" on March 13. The event will take place at Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The keynote speaker for the evening is Ray Ciancaglini, a former professional boxer who has become a nationally recognized advocate for concussion awareness. Ciancaglini has been living with Parkinson's Syndrome and Stage II Dementia Pugilistica due to multiple untreated concussions throughout his career. His advocacy work was instrumental in the passage of New York’s Concussion Management Awareness Act and the federal Professional Boxing Safety Act. He dedicates his efforts to educating young athletes, families, schools, and communities about the risks associated with untreated concussions.

Dr. Peter Obourn from URMC Orthopaedics & Physical Performance will also present at the event alongside professionals from Thompson Health Rehabilitation Services Department.
