Megan Gray, a registered nurse at Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, was honored with the DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence on April 8 by UR Medicine Thompson Health nursing leadership. Gray works on floor 2 West and was nominated by a fellow nurse for her exemplary patient interactions, particularly with long-term patients.

The nomination highlighted Gray's efforts in connecting with a long-term patient and their significant other. "She spent time talking with them to hear their complaints and feelings and helped them process the difficult decisions and thoughts they were dealing with. She also spent this time with the patient’s significant other," said the nomination. These efforts included enlisting fellow hospital associates to make positive gestures like coloring pictures and bringing in holiday decorations for the patient.

“These little acts of kindness are prime examples of what an amazing nurse she is to all her patients,” the nominator stated, adding that the patient's family was grateful for Gray's influence.

As part of the recognition, Gray received a certificate, a pin, and a hand-carved sculpture entitled A Healer’s Touch. The DAISY Foundation offers DAISY Award recipients various benefits, including eligibility for scholarships, discounts on certifications, and medical mission grants.
