The New York State Energy Planning Board is in the process of revising the state's energy plan as part of its transition to clean energy. Senator Helming has addressed a letter to the board, expressing her recommendations and concerns regarding this update.
Senator Helming emphasized several key areas in her letter. These include the reliability of the electric grid, the readiness of alternative energy sources and infrastructure, and the potential impacts on housing and economic development. Additionally, she highlighted concerns about costs for ratepayers, businesses, and schools.
"The Energy Plan should provide an honest review of CLCPA goals, examine the true costs of CLCPA mandates, and consider the potential impact on energy affordability, grid resiliency, economic opportunity, and consumer choice," Senator Helming stated. She further suggested that if implementing these mandates proves financially prohibitive or if alternative technologies are not adequately developed, "the Energy Plan should recommend delaying these mandates."
