Assemblyman John Lemondes (R,C-LaFayette) is initiating his Annual New York State Assembly Summer Reading Challenge to promote reading habits and continuous learning during the summer. This year's theme, “Adventure Begins at Your Library,” is in collaboration with Summer Reading at New York Libraries. The challenge is open to students in grades K through 5 residing in the 126th Assembly District for the 2023-2024 school year.

Students who commit to reading for at least 15 minutes daily for a minimum of 40 days during July and August will receive a New York State Excellence in Reading Certificate from Lemondes. “I am incredibly excited to announce the start of this challenge for the students of Central New York,” said Lemondes. “Reading is a fundamental part of any child’s education, and I hope this challenge will instill the value of learning in them. I know this is a great opportunity for our young students and will be a great way to kick off their summer break!”

Summer Reading Calendars have been distributed to all schools and libraries throughout the 126th Assembly District. Parents can track their child's progress using these calendars. Upon completing the challenge, parents can mail the calendar to Lemondes' District Office to receive a certificate recognizing their child's achievement.
