Senator Pam Helming and Wayne County Community Schools recently organized the "Pathways to Prosperity" event in Newark, focusing on collaboration between local businesses and community schools. The aim was to explore how these partnerships can create opportunities for students and bolster the local economy.

Community Schools leverage public, non-profit, and private resources to offer essential services to students and families, which enhances student performance and generates other positive outcomes.

Jay Roscup from Wayne County Community Schools attended the event along with representatives from several organizations including the United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes, Reliant Federal Credit Union, EL-VI Farms, Finger Lakes Workforce Investment Board, Rochester Regional Health, Finger Lakes Community College, Rootstock Cider and Spirits.

Ritchie, a student from Newark High School who is part of the STEADY Work program, shared his experience at the event. He highlighted how the Community Schools model has given him purpose. With support from STEADY Work and Lyons National Bank's financing program, Ritchie was able to purchase his first car. His work in the Newark Summer Program led him to discover a passion for working with children.

Senator Helming expressed her gratitude: “I want to thank all the businesses and organizations for participating in the Pathways to Prosperity event. It was an inspiring morning... I encourage all businesses – large or small – to find out about the impactful work of Community Schools.”

Jay Roscup commented on Senator Helming's initiative: “Senator Helming provided a chance for schools and businesses to come together... Exploring specific ideas for cross-sector collaboration that benefits everyone is exactly how local places should use the Community Schools strategy."

Nelson Kise of Sodus Schools praised the gathering: “Today’s Pathways to Prosperity Event was spot on... shaping the lives of young people must be our priority.”

Lindsey Dailey from United Way remarked on its success: "Today's event... highlights what we can achieve together! A heartfelt thank you to Senator Helming... Special thanks to Richie..."
